True Colors

True Colors is a personality assessment created by Don Lowry in 1979. It is based on the well-known Myers-Brigg Type Indicator (MBTI), which characterized 16 different types of people. This test helps people recognize their personality and temperament types. It evolves around four colors: Green, Orange, Blue and Gold. Each of us are a mix or rainbow, usually with one predominant color, which can help us in many avenues of our life, career and job search.

Summary of the colors

Green

Greens comprise about 12% of the population. Green’s motto is “Knowledge is key” or “I’ll think about it.” For a Green, work is play and play is work. As people of reason, Greens are often very curious, analytical, need challenge, like numbers, facts and theory. They look at the world from a practical place, so they love the question: “Why?”

Orange

Approximately 38% of the population is Orange. Orange’s motto is “Seize the day!” or “Where’s the action?” Oranges love the saying, “Just do it!” They live for adventure and travel, get easily bored and love change. You will hear an Orange say, “Where’s the party?”

Blue

Blues make up about 12% of the population. A true Blue’s motto is “I care!” or “To Thine Own Self Be True.” They love people and family. They are sensitive to the needs of other people and seek harmony and peace above all, so they run from conflict. They are seen as the helpers and teachers in the group.

Read the following text about one problem that affects countless people: wandering minds…

Neuroscientists are increasingly interested in our ability to knuckle down, precisely because so many of us find it hard. 80% of students and 25% of adults admit to being chronic procrastinators, and with the internet and smartphones, this may be getting worse. No matter how much we like to think that a little procrastination makes us more creative, the evidence suggests that it actually leads to stress, illness and relationship problems.

Can retirement kill you?

In 2003, Dr Harry Prosen stepped down as head of psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin, but the then 71-year-old had no plans to retire. Rather, the doctor intended to focus on other “jobs” that would keep him busy.

It’s not just a love of working that has kept Prosen, now at 83, toiling away 30 hours a week as an octogenarian. He also sees keeping busy as a matter of life or death.

Prosen said he is certain that if he stopped working entirely, he would literally die not long after. In fact, a number of studies show that retirement is bad for your health.

A 2013 report, for instance, found that retirement increased the chances of suffering from depression by 40%, while it increased the probability of having at least one physical ailment by about 60%.

Read the text below about the role of reforestation against global warming.

Reforestation is best against global warming

A group of international scientists revealed that Brazil's forests and the forests of other tropical countries in the Americas are much more durable than those with chainsaws ever dreamed.

In areas abandoned from deforestation and agricultural use, the forest usually bounces back with a vengeance, sucking CO2 (the main gas responsible for global warming) at a rate 11 times greater than that of a forest that hasn't been torn down.

To help in the efforts against climate change, a simple and cheap approach would be to allow the forests to regenerate naturally in degraded areas – and, of course, avoiding further deforestation.

After 20 years of growth, on average, the secondary forests (those that regenerate after deforestation) already achieved the high rates of carbonic gas absorption – 3 tons of carbon per hectare per year.

“Up to now, those forests were kind of orphan, we lived a radical dichotomy between supposed virgin forests and degraded areas. Our work shows that we need to look at this issue more broadly”, says Pedro Brancalion, a University of São Paulo researcher who also backs the study.

According to the previous text, consider the following statements:

I) the relation between native forest and secondary forest has been clarified by this research group.

II) the recovery of degraded areas could be successfully achieved by letting the forest grow by itself.

III) the absorption of CO2 is necessary in order to keep temperatures regulated in the Americas.

IV) the peak of CO2 absorption is reached within some decades by forest grown in degraded areas.

It is only correct what is stated on:

II and IV.

Read the text below about the touristic attractions of Belém, the capital of Pará, and pay attention to the cohesive devices from 1 to 4:

With its 19th century architecture, Belém retains shades of the “Tropical Paris”

The capital of Pará received 640,000 visitors in 2015. Walking through the city, they would no doubt have stumbled across traces of its former rubber glory, like1 the Theatro da Paz, built in 1878.

By the waterfront in the old city, the Ver-o-Peso open-air market is unmissable. Visitors can see women making tacacá (manioc soup) and buy chestnuts, açaí, the medicinal herb jambu and many other local products.

If2hunger strikes, stalls sell fish with açaí - a local delicacy. The fruit is served unsweetened, without the sugar that tends to be added in São Paulo and Rio.

A little further on is Mangal das Garças, a park opened in 2005. It is 40,000m2 and entry is free. It has flamingos and wild lizards, as well as3 a butterfly house - a reminder, that in spite of4 its rubber belle époque, Belém remains at the heart of the Amazon.

The Less You Sleep, the More Colds You’ll Get

People who averaged six hours of sleep or fewer were four times more likely to come down with a cold than people who slept at least seven hours. That risk went up to 4.5 times if people slept less than five hours. The study wasn't designed to determine how sleep affects immunity, but it's proof of concept that the two are connected.

Although it’s not unheard of to eat a banana peel (at least outside of the United States), there’s a new version of fruit that may make eating peels much more common.

A modified banana which features an edible peel was developed by farmers in Japan. They named it the “Mongee Banana,” which is slang for “incredible” in Japanese, according to SoraNews24, a Tokyo-based blog.

Read the following text about smoking regulations in Australia.

Australia's Tasmania may raise smoking age to 25

The Australian state of Tasmania is considering raising the legal age for buying cigarettes to at least 21 and potentially as high as 25. If the plan goes ahead it will give Tasmania some of the toughest tobacco laws in the world. The current legal age to purchase, possess or smoke cigarettes in all Australian states is 18. Critics have complained the proposed restrictions would be a violation of civil liberties. Australia already has some of the world's toughest anti-smoking policies. The country is also one of the most expensive places in the world to buy cigarettes - from around A$20 a pack ($15; £10).

Leia, a seguir, uma pequena biografia do artista holandês Van Gogh.

Vincent Van Gogh (March 30, 1853 - July 29, 1890) is generally considered the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt, though he had little success during his lifetime. Van Gogh produced all of his work (some 900 paintings and 1100 drawings) during a period of only 10 years before he succumbed to mental illness (possibly bipolar disorder) and committed suicide. His fame grew rapidly after his death especially following a showing of his paintings in Paris in 1901 (11 years after his death).

Van Gogh's influence on expressionism, fauvism and early abstraction was enormous, and can be seen in many other aspects of 20th-century art. The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is dedicated to Van Gogh's work and that of his contemporaries.

Several paintings by Van Gogh rank among the most expensive paintings in the world. On March 30, 1987 Van Gogh's painting "Irises" was sold for a record $53.9 million at Southeby's, New York. On May 15, 1990 his portrait of Doctor Gachet was sold for $82.5 million at Christie's, thus establishing a new price record.

ficou famoso após inscrever-se em uma exposição em Paris.

foi influenciado pela arte abstrata como o expressionismo.

foi reconhecido como artista de talento postumamente.

disputou com Rembrandt o posto de maior artista holandês.
