Read this article about reading to answer the question:

What’s good for read?

At least that’s what many experts are now saying. After a long time of believing that only certain types of reading materials were appropriate, educators and child experts are changing their minds.

They now say that any reading is good for developing and improving comprehension skills. Children increase their vocabulary by reading which also increases their comprehension.

Some parents might be concerned that if left to choose their books, their children would only choose easy material. They might think that children won’t challenge themselves by reading above their level. But, in fact, the opposite is true. When children choose their own materials, they generally pick books at a higher level than what a teacher would, if the topic of the reading is interesting to them.

Studies show that children who read for pleasure or for their own learning often do well in all school subjects. Good readers often make better students. The only way to become a better reader is to practice.

So whether it’s a teen romance novel, a music magazine, a comic book about superheroes, or an internet website, reading is good for the brain.
